Javier is an associate in the finance practice in the Madrid office.

He advises national and international leading banks and investment banks on the acquisition and financing of loan and real estate portfolios, including financing of Spanish REIT (SOCIMI) structures. He also advises on bond issues, RMBS (involving foreign structures and Spanish securitisation funds) and has advised local banks on leverage buyouts too.

Background

He has a dual degree in Law and Business Administration by Universidad de Oviedo (Spain), partially studied at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität of Münster (Germany). He also has a master’s degree for Admission to the Bar by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain). He speaks Spanish and English. He is admitted to the Ilustre Colegio de la Abogacía de Madrid (ICAM – Madrid Bar Association).

Prior to joining the firm as a junior associate, he completed a 12-month full-time internship as a trainee in the Madrid office as well as a six-month internship in an international company in the energy sector.

  • an American multinational investment management and financial services company on a complex transaction involving (i) the acquisition of a mortgage loan portfolio from Banco Santander represented by mortgage transfer certificates (CTHs) with an estimated outstanding value of €700 million; (ii) the incorporation of a private securitisation fund for the securitisation of the mortgage transfer certificates and (iii) the public securitisation Clavel Residential 2 RMBS 2022 backed by the issue of Spanish bonds, as arranger (Project Macondo)
  • an American multinational investment management and financial services company on a complex transaction involving (i) the secondary acquisition of a mortgage loan re-performing portfolio originated by BBVA represented by mortgage participations (participaciones hipotecarias or PHs) and (ii) the 2022 international securitisation Clavel Residential DAC RMBS backed by the acquired loan portfolio, as arranger (Project Ceos)
  • LCM Partners, as purchaser on (1) the acquisition from Banco Santander of a €280 million portfolio of mortgage loans, unsecured loans and REOs transferred through issuance of mortgage transfer certificates, sub-participation and direct sales, as applicable and (2) the incorporation of a Spanish private securitisation fund for the acquisition of the referred loans (Project Paddock)
  • an international investment bank, as lender, on the English and Spanish law aspects of the financing granted to TPG (via Témpore Properties SOCIMI) for the acquisition of a real estate portfolio (Project Yoda)
  • an international investment fund on the Spanish law aspects of the pan-European industrial asset development and investment financing granted to Exeter related to a portfolio of logistic assets, some of them are located in Spain (Project North)
