Herbert Smith Freehills has been a proud signatory of the Australian Law Council’s Gender Equitable Briefing policy since its inception. We are focussed on widening the pool of barristers whom we brief with a particular focus on briefing more women.
In FY23:
- 29% of all briefs nationally were to women barristers
- 45% of all briefs to junior counsel nationally were to women barristers (equating to 53% of the total dollar value of all briefs to junior counsel)
- focussing on our Disputes practice alone women barristers received:
- 33% of all briefs to counsel nationally (equating to 34% of the total dollar amount of those briefs); and
- 56% of all briefs to junior counsel nationally (equating to 63% of the total dollar amount of those briefs).
