Ian specialises in all aspects of pensions law and brings more than 30 years' experience to assist his clients when advising on the pensions aspects of major transactions.

Experience

Ian advises trustees and employers on the often complex issues arising in relation to their pension arrangements, including funding and valuation issues and disputes.  He is also expert on issues of pension scheme governance and has contributed to a book on the subject. 

He plays an active role in a number of pensions industry organisations.  He is on the main committee of the Association of Pension Lawyers, and also on  the Council of the Society of Pensions Consultants and the executive committee of the Pensions Research Accountants Group.

Experience

  • Tata Steel on the pensions aspects of its £6.2 billion acquisition of Corus (formerly British Steel) and its negotiations with the trustees of the British Steel Pension Fund
  • Tata Motors on the significant pension issues arising out of its acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers on a range of issues in relation to its UK pension arrangements
  • the UK Government Actuary’s Department on issues arising from its role as scheme actuary to various public sector pension schemes

Background

Ian is a member of the main committee of the Association of Pension Lawyers,  the Council of the Society of Pensions Consultants and the executive committee of the Pensions Research Accountants Group.
