International law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has refreshed its management team in the Madrid office, which will be effective from 1 May 2023. Partner Eduardo Soler Tappa has been appointed as the new managing partner of the office, supported by a management board of partners including Alberto Frasquet, Armando García-Mendoza and Iria Calviño.
The new management will implement an ambitious growth plan, which will enable the firm to continue its remarkable growth and developments as well as further enhancing its market profile in Spain.
Eduardo is a State Attorney on leave and has been a long-standing member of the firm since 2010. He leads Herbert Smith Freehills' Disputes and Arbitration practice in Spain, advising clients on litigation/arbitration, public law and regulatory matters, with a focus in the energy sector. Prior to joining the firm, he was Deputy State Attorney-in-Chief at the State Attorney's Office in Barcelona (with experience acting before courts of all kinds) and State Attorney-in-Chief at the Secretariat of State for Energy.
Eduardo succeeds partner Miguel Riaño, who will continue to focus on building and deepening relationships with Madrid's largest clients, taking on the title of the Chairman of the Spanish practice in this external-facing role.
