The partners and staff of Herbert Smith Freehills and Allens are deeply saddened by the loss of respected alumnus and friend Professor Bob Baxt AO

Robert (Bob) Baxt AO first joined Freehills, Hollingdale and Page as a solicitor in 1965. After leaving the firm, he went on to pursue a stellar career as Dean of the Monash University Law Faculty and later as Chairman for the Trade Practices Commission (now the ACCC).

From 1991-2004 Bob was a partner at Allens Arthur Robinson.

He then re-joined Freehills as a partner in 2005, becoming an Emeritus partner of the firm in 2011 and a consultant in 2016.

After many years of devoted service to the legal profession, Bob retired in October 2017, but still continued his policy and acedemic pursuits.

His enormous contributions to the legal community were recognised with a number of prestigious accolades and awards throughout this career, including an Order of Australia for services to the law, the Centenary Medal, and the Queen’s Birthday Honours Award 2003. He was also awarded the first ever Honorary Life Membership by the Law Council of Australia (Business Law Section). Only last week Bob was awarded Monash University’s highest honour – an honorary LL.D.

We send our sincere condolences to Bob’s family and loved ones.
