Herbert Smith Freehills senior associate Rupert Baker has been recognised as one of the best and brightest young lawyers in Australia at the recent Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards.

These special annual awards recognise the country’s top legal talents under the age of 30 across a broad range of practice areas.

Rupert was recognised as a rising star for his skills in the Projects, Energy and Resources category, as well as his broader commitment to the community.

Herbert Smith Freehills’ Regional Managing Partner, Asia and Australia, Sue Gilchrist congratulated Rupert on his win and said it was due recognition of his dedication and commitment to his clients, high level legal skills and leadership within the firm.

Rupert advises clients on the development and financing of major energy and infrastructure projects in Australia and abroad as well as advising mining and energy clients in relation to corporate financing. He specialises in renewable energy and his work directly contributes not only to successful outcomes for the firm’s key clients but also to making a clean energy future a reality.

“These awards are given to the very best young talent within our industry and we are all very proud of Rupert. His excellent technical legal expertise and complete focus on delivering the highest level of client service is equally matched by his commitment to our firm and leadership role in many of our internal initiatives,” Sue said.

“Rupert has a very bright future and we look forward to encouraging and supporting his continued career development.”

The awards, which were held at a special ceremony in Sydney on 23 June 2017, are not just about acknowledging the technical legal expertise and client focus of entrants but also how candidates balance their professional life with a broader role in pro bono and community activity.
