Herbert Smith Freehills has been awarded Real Estate Team of the Year and Dispute Resolution (Commercial Litigation) Team of the Year at the Legal 500 Awards in London on 23 February, 2017.
Legal 500 recognised the breadth and depth of Herbert Smith Freehills' real estate practice, in particular across investment, development and occupier transactions covering all asset classes. It highlighted the firm’s role in complex, high profile, development schemes such as Marble Arch Tower in Central London where the firm advise across the whole suite of real estate issues from letting documentation to corporate restructuring to refinancing.
The firm also won the Dispute Resolution Team of the Year prize and its commercial litigation practice was lauded as being the "go-to firm for bet-the-company litigation". This was illustrated by the firm’s representation of Vedanta Resources and Konkola Copper Mines in High Court proceedings brought by more than 2,000 claimants concerning alleged environmental issues arising from mining operations in Zambia.
The Legal 500 Awards recognise and reward the best private practice and in-house teams and individuals over the past 12 months and are presented to elite legal practitioners, based on research into the UK legal market. Over 50,000 interviews were conducted to ascertain the winners.
