Herbert Smith Freehills has won the European Infrastructure and Energy Deal of the Year Award for Section three of Moscow's central ring road at the prestigious annual The Lawyer European Awards 2017, which were held at Grange St. Paul's, London on 16 March 2017.

The award recognises advice of our infrastructure team to a private investor, a leading Russian construction company DSK Avtoban, on a concession project to construct and operate section three of Moscow's central ring road. The total capital expenditure for the construction is over EURO 1 billion.

Our team was led by partner Olga Revzina, head of infrastructure and PPP for Russia, and comprised of senior associate Grigoriy Smirnov and associate Yana Ivanova.

Olga Revzina has commented: "It is currently the first and only project of such a scale to reach financial close under Russia's federal PPP transport project programme in the last two years. Such a high recognition of a Russian project is a very good sign for the future. And this is certainly a very strong contribution to our wider European infrastructure practice development and market positioning".

The project snapshot:

Section three of Moscow's central ring road (A-113) will be a 105.3km, four-lane toll road, which will connect the M11 Moscow - St Petersburg highway with the M7 Volga. When all the five separately procured sections of Moscow's central ring road are completed, the ring road will be around 520km long. An estimated traffic speed is of 140km per hour.
