Experience

Based in the Tokyo office since 2011, Yosuke assists both Japanese and multinational clients on complex cross-border commercial disputes as well as corporate crime & investigation matters. Yosuke has represented clients in international arbitrations under various institutional rules, including the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, HKIAC, JCAA and TAI, with seats in the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and Thailand. His international and multicultural background allows him to assist clients with bridging cultural gaps in international business.

Yosuke has been named in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2021 and 2022 directory as a "Rising Star: Gaiben" in the Dispute Resolution: International Firms and Joint Ventures category for Japan. Published feedback includes:

Yosuke is a part-time secondee to HSF’s Digital Law Group, a global, cross-practice and multi-disciplinary team advising clients and the firm on issues arising from digital transformation.

Yosuke's experience includes advising:
 

  • a consortium of Asian investors in a Seoul-seated ICC arbitration proceedings on a dispute arising out of the sale and purchase agreement involving the financial services sector
  • a worldwide industrial player on a World Bank enquiry around allegations of fraudulent practices committed in Asia and in Europe in connection with several projects financed by multilateral development banks
  • a Japanese contractor in relation to a JCAA arbitration with respect to a valuation dispute concerning an African power project
  • a Japanese manufacturer in TAI arbitration proceedings with respect to an industrial incident at a power plant in Thailand
  • a Japanese subsidiary of a global pharmaceutical company in a Tokyo-seated ICC arbitration in relation to the termination of a co-promotion agreement

Background

Yosuke grew up in the UK and is bilingual in English and Japanese. Yosuke is an England & Wales qualified solicitor and is a registered foreign lawyer in Japan. Yosuke previously worked in the firm’s London and Singapore offices.
