Experience

Tomás has extensive and wide-ranging experience advising clients in corporate real estate matters, such as mergers and acquisitions, transactions financed by private equity funds and joint ventures to invest and develop in real estate.

In addition, Tomás is experienced in acquisition and financing of companies which operate in the real estate sector (shopping centres, office buildings, logistic platforms, hotels, resorts, residential buildings, healthcare, senior living, student housing, large portfolios of assets and non-performing loans, etc.), primarily focused on private equity funds or the industrial and banking sectors (sale and purchase agreements, lease agreements, sale and lease back deals, turn-key agreements, hotel management agreements, etc.).

    • on the acquisition of a €108 million portfolio of logistic assets located in different cities in Spain from KKR and RoundHill
    • on the acquisition of a €243 million portfolio of logistic assets located in different cities in Spain from GreenOak 
    • on the acquisition of plots in Illescas (Toledo) and Onda (Castellón) and the development of XXL logistic warehouses and their subsequent lease to a major online retailer
    • on the acquisition of a plot in Illescas (Toledo) and the development of a logistic warehouse for its subsequent lease to Airbus
    • on the listing of its Socimi (REIT) at the Spanish Alternative Stock Exchange
  • Costco Wholesale Corporation on all the aspects of its business in Spain, including the acquisition of sites and development of large retail areas (including gas stations)

    • on the €185 million sale & leaseback acquisition of 27 free-standing supermarkets from Mercadona, mainly located in Madrid, Andalucía and Catalonia

    • on the acquisition of 100% of the shares held by CBRE Global Investors of a portfolio of logistic warehouses located in the industrial hub of Corredor del Henares, between Madrid and Guadalajara (Spain)
    • on the acquisition of a number of logistic warehouses located in Yeles (Toledo) and Constantí (Tarragona)   
    • on the acquisition of a number of land plots across Spain for the development of logistic warehouses
  • Único Hotels on the €93 million sale & leaseback of the 5* Grand Hotel Barcelona
  • Perial Asset Management
    • on the acquisition of a portfolio comprising two real estate assets for student housing use located in Granada (Spain)
    • on the acquisition of a nine-hotel portfolio in Spain leased to B&B Hotels, from Corum Asset Management

Background

Tomás graduated with a degree in Law (major) in 2002. He also completed a Master's in Law (LL.M) at the IE Law (Madrid, Spain) in 2003, and a Master's in town planning from the Garrigues Centre of Studies (Madrid, Spain).

Before joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Tomás worked at another international law firm. He is fluent in English and German.
