Sophie Bayrou


Sophie advises clients on litigation and international arbitration.



Sophie advises on cross-border commercial disputes and international arbitration. She acts for clients in the manufacturing and industrial sectors with a focus on the luxury goods sector.  
She has appeared before the French civil and commercial courts as well as in arbitration proceedings.
Sophie's experience includes advising:
  • one of the largest European paper companies in a multi-party ICC arbitration, following the termination of a commercial agent contract governed by French law
  • an Italian property developer in ad hoc arbitration against a renowned French architect, regarding the construction of a luxury hotel in Italy
  • a major French luxury group in a complex cross-border dispute with its Italian manufacturer



Sophie obtained her master's degree in economic law from Sciences Po Paris and a master’s degree in international business law from Panthéon Assas University. She qualified as a French avocat in January 2017 and is a member of the Paris Bar. 

Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Sophie was a litigation and arbitration lawyer at a Paris-based law firm. 

Sophie is fluent in English, French and Italian.
