Simone is a dispute resolution lawyer focusing on financial services and regulatory matters.

Simone is a senior consultant in the dispute resolution practice of Herbert Smith Freehills' Hong Kong office. Her practice focuses on both contentious and non-contentious financial services regulatory matters.

Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Simone was a legal counsel at the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). She conducted various market misconduct proceedings commenced by the SFC before the Hong Kong Courts and the Market Misconduct Tribunal. She was the lead counsel in several cases involving the suspension of dealings in Hong Kong-listed securities directed by the SFC under the Securities and Futures (Stock Market Listing) Rules. She also advised on potential disciplinary actions against financial intermediaries, their responsible officers and licensed representatives.

In addition to her experience as a regulator, Simone previously worked as a dispute resolution lawyer in two international firms advising on a range of regulatory, litigation and international arbitration matters. Simone is experienced in advising international financial institutions, listed companies and multinational corporations and their senior management in legal and regulatory risk management, compliance investigations, regulatory enquiries and enforcement actions (including, by the SFC, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and the Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority), covering issues concerning financial intermediary and responsible officer conduct, potential regulatory breaches, mis-selling, internal control and market misconduct issues.

Background

Simone holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of Nottingham.

Simone is admitted to practice in Hong Kong and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

She is fluent in English and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese).
