Patrick is chair of the firm’s Alternative Legal Services group as well as providing leadership and co-ordination on firm-wide change projects as we continue to grow and improve our business. Patrick has held senior management and strategy development roles within the firm for over 10 years.
Patrick has served as the global head of the finance, real estate and projects practice and is recognised as one Australia's leading finance lawyers specialising in acquisition finance, project finance and other large syndicated lending transactions. Patrick has acted for both banks and borrowers on some of Australia’s largest projects and financing transactions. He has practised as a finance lawyer for over 20 years and has spent periods working for an Australian investment bank and as a finance lawyer in London.
Patrick has acted for Australia’s leading banks on a wide range of financing transactions – including the financing of electricity and gas assets, submarine telecommunications cables, power stations and resource projects – and companies operating in the telecommunications, media, health, manufacturing and transport industries.
Project and infrastructure finance
Patrick has acted on numerous financings in the telecommunications sector, including the financing of the Australia–Japan telecommunications cable and the Southern Cross Cable (linking Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, Oregon and California).
He also has experience in the financing of large social infrastructure, PPP and infrastructure projects. Having worked on a number of tollway projects and asset privatizations.
Patrick has worked on resource financings in Australia, Asia and the Pacific. He is familiar with issues raised by the financing of joint venture interests and commodity hedging.
Corporate and acquisition finance
Patrick has acted for borrowers and lenders on numerous corporate loan transactions, secured or unsecured, and documented on a bilateral, club or syndicated basis. He has also acted on acquisition financing transactions and management buy-out financings, and is familiar with the inter-creditor issues that arise in these transactions.
Patrick holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales. He was admitted as a solicitor in Australia in 1988.
