Nihal specialises in international commercial arbitration, with a particular focus on the energy sector and disputes concerning oil and gas. He has been involved in representing clients under the auspices of a number of different arbitral institutions and in a range of jurisdictions. Nihal joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2015 and is currently based in London, having also spent six months with the international arbitration group in Hong Kong.
Nihal is admitted to practice as an advocate by the Bar Council of India.
Nihal's experience includes advising and representing:
- a leading Chinese oil and gas company and its overseas subsidiary as claimants in a multi-billion dollar arbitration administered by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) related to their investment in a European oil company
Nihal was awarded a B.A. LLB (Hons.) from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (NUJS) in 2014. Nihal is fluent in English and Hindi.
