Michael is a corporate senior associate specialising in mergers & acquisitions, governance and corporate fundraising.



Michael is a Senior Associate in the Corporate M&A team of Herbert Smith Freehills, and has worked in our M&A teams in both Sydney and London. Michael specialises in public and private M&A transactions, corporate fundraising, corporate restructures and re-organisations, and corporate governance. 

Michael has assisted clients across a range of industries, including energy and resources, financial services, property, media, transport, and advertising/marketing.

Michael's experience includes advising:

  • Virgin Atlantic on its participation in the recommended consortium bid (together with Stobart Aviation and Cyrus Capital Partners) for Flybe, the UK's largest regional airline and the related share sale

  • Virgin Atlantic on a proposed sale of 31% of Virgin Atlantic to Air France KLM and the creation of an enhanced joint venture between Virgin Atlantic, Delta, and Air France KLM including on the implications and consequences of Brexit and structuring solutions focussed on ownership and control issues

  • British Columbia Investment Management Corporation on its participation in rail consortium arrangements in connection with the A$9 billion takeover of Asciano

  • Liberty Metals & Mining Holdings on its $100 million recapitalisation of Cockatoo Coal by way of a deed of company arrangement

  • Liberty Metals & Mining Holdings on its role as sub-underwriter to a $125 million accelerated renounceable pro-rata entitlement offer conducted by Cockatoo Coal

  • Seven Group Holdings on its proposed acquisition of Nexus Energy by scheme of arrangement and subsequent acquisition of Nexus under a deed of company arrangement

  • Freehills on its merger with Herbert Smith to create the international legal practice known as Herbert Smith Freehills



Michael holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney. Michael was admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales in February 2011 and was a Winner in the M&A Category for the 2015 Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards.
