Marco has strong experience in advising both leading Australian and global financial institutions on derivatives and related regulations. Marco has also worked in the legal team for Macquarie Group Limited in Sydney, Hong Kong and London.
Marco has advised leading Australian and global corporations and financial institutions on various types of derivatives, including over-the-counter (OTC), exchange traded and derivatives-based securities, as well as repurchase and lending agreements. Marco has strong experience in a range of OTC products; specifically interest rate derivatives, credit derivatives, currency/FX derivatives and commodity derivatives. Furthermore Marco has strong experience in providing regulatory advice within the derivatives sector, specifically trade reporting, clearing and margining obligations. He has also experience in working on cross-border aviation finance, including the sale of aircraft and leasing arrangements.
Marco's experience includes:
- advising a syndicate of financiers on the derivatives and hedging aspects of the AUD2.25 billion refinancing of the Reliance Rail NSW Rolling Stock PPP
- advising BP Energy Asia Pte Ltd with regards to the trading of electricity derivatives and Australian environmental products derivatives with various Australian corporate counterparts in Australia
- advising Bank of China, Sydney branch, on the hedging aspects of their bilateral and syndicated loans with their customers
Marco commenced his legal career at Macquarie Group Limited in the Macquarie Securities Group, starting in Sydney and then working overseas in Hong Kong and London. Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Marco worked at Norton Rose Fulbright Australia in the Brisbane banking and finance practice.
