Leonie is a Senior Associate in the English law finance team in Madrid, mainly advising on project finance and structured commodity trade transactions in the energy, natural resources and infrastructure sectors.

Leonie is a Senior Associate in the English law finance team in Madrid, mainly advising on project finance and structured commodity trade transactions in the energy, natural resources and infrastructure sectors.

Leonie advises clients on structured finance transactions (project finance, acquisition finance and ECA finance) in the energy, natural resources and infrastructure sectors both in the Iberian market and in emerging markets. In recent years she has also become focused on ESG products and sustainable finance initiatives. 

She acts for a broad client base of lenders, borrowers, sponsors, ECAs, governments and other market participants on a variety of financing structures. 

In the past decade, Leonie has worked as external counsel in Latin America, the United Kingdom and continental Europe, giving her an insight into the cultural and business considerations faced by clients operating in these markets. 

Background

Leonie has a law degree from the University of Sussex and a LLM in Public International Law from Leiden University. She speaks Dutch, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and a bit of Italian.

  • Banco Santander and UKEF in relation to a buyer credit facility to the Ministry of Economy of Gabon in relation to the rehabilitation of the roadway system in the Republic of Gabon*
  • Banco Santander, JP Morgan and the other IMLAs on the USD1.3bn CESCE backed loan to PetroPerú for the financing of the modernization of an oil refinery in Peru. This is the largest-ever financing covered by the Spanish export credit agency, CESCE, and is the largest ECA financing arranged in Peru*
  • EIG Global Energy Partners in connection with their equity investment in Opdenergy, a Spanish company dedicated to the development, construction and operation of renewable energy assets across Europe and the Americas*
  • Eliantus Energy, a Spanish solar developer, in connection with a debt facility provided by Macquarie Infrastructure Debt Investment Solutions consisting of senior secured bonds to refinance a portfolio of solar assets located in southern Spain*
