Specialising in contentious and non-contentious intellectual property, Laura has a focus on patent and regulatory law in the life sciences sector. In this field she has acted in some of the highest profile multi-jurisdictional patent cases, including in the context of the SPC Regulation, and has assisted major pharmaceutical companies in connection with patent expiry of top selling drugs. She also advises on regulatory matters, particularly at the interface with patent law.
In addition to advising on patent and SPC matters, Laura has advised many of the largest pharma and biotech companies on a range of regulatory issues including product life cycle management, routes for obtaining marketing authorisations, data exclusivity provisions, supplementary protection certificates, orphan designations, good manufacturing practice compliance certificates, pricing and reimbursement.
Laura has experience in a broad cross-section of industries, notably TMT and electronics, chemicals, consumer products, fashion and industrial design.
Laura is recommended as a leading patent lawyer and life sciences specialist by international and Italian directories including Chambers and Partners, MIP's Expert Guide to the World's Leading Patent Law Practitioners, IAM Patent 1000. Laura has been ranked as one of Italy's 50 most influential lawyers of 2018 by Legal Community MAG.
Laura recently won the award for "IP Lawyer of the Year" at the 2019 Italian LegalCommunity Awards and "Food Lawyer of the Year" at the 2019 Top Legal Industry Awards. In 2015, Laura was the exclusive winner for Italy of the International Client Choice Awards in the Healthcare & Life Sciences category and in 2018 she won the same award in the Intellectual Property (Patents) category. She was named Biomedical Lawyer of the Year at the 2018 TopLegal Industry Awards Italy and Life Sciences Lawyer of the Year at the 2018 Italian Legal Community Awards.

Clients comment that she is “appreciated for her clear and concise communication as well as her deep specialisation in IP” and that she is “particularly strong in pharmaceutical patent issues” (Chambers Europe 2015). Laura's experience includes:
advising Gilead on the Europe-wide dispute over the HIV drug Truvada including the implementation of the CJEU decision on combination SPCs
assisting Eli Lilly on a number of high profile patent matters, including most recently advising in relation to a blockbuster migraine drug
assisting Elanco on a patent case against Italian competitor concerning a top selling animal health product
advising JC Bamford on a multi-jurisdictional patent validity and infringement case concerning telescopic handlers
advising Lundbeck on a variety of patent and regulatory law matters in relation to medicinal products for the central nervous system
Laura graduated with honours from the University of Pavia and the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Laura also holds a doctorate in Contentious Law from the University of Bologna.
Laura is Executive Secretary of the Life Sciences Industry Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy. She also is a member of IPO, EPLAW and AIPPI.
