Jonathan Stephenson


Jonathan is an Associate in our Technology, Media and Telecommunications team. 



Jonathan is a transactional and commercial lawyer who advises clients on matters across the technology, media and entertainment, and telecommunications sectors. He also completed a six month secondment in the firm's Singapore office between September 2017 and March 2018, in particular advising on India-related matters.

Jonathan's experience includes advising:

  • Telefónica UK on the creation and evolution of its mobile network sharing arrangements between with Vodafone in the UK
  • Google EMEA on its BAU deals for technical infrastructure including network acquisition, capacity and data centres, to support Google's growth across EMEA
  • Ministry of Defence ("MOD") in relation to the transformation of all of MOD's current IT systems and supplier ecosystem, including advising on strategy and re-procurement of all existing IT services, redesigning and restructuring its IT sourcing arrangements and ensuring that MOD is able to benefit from advances in technology
  • the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development on the first generation outsourcing of its infrastructure, networks, and security, including matters in connection with its unique privileges, immunities and exemptions
  • Transport for London on its project to move to a pan-London IT network, to connect stations, ticket machines, corporate locations and data centres
  • a confidential client on the renegotiation of its existing multi-billion pound legacy IT infrastructure arrangement with a consortium of suppliers, including the migration and transformation of its entire global technology estate to a cloud-based service delivery model




Jonathan trained at Herbert Smith Freehills, gaining experience in a wide variety of practice areas.  Jonathan studied at the University of Cambridge and obtained an MA in Law.
