Jacqui is an employment lawyer in Herbert Smith Freehills' Johannesburg office. 

Jacqui's main focus is employment law. She has experience considering the full range of employment laws including those related to discrimination, collective bargaining, employment contracts, policies and procedures, sales of business, restraints of trade, restructuring and retrenchments.

Jacqui has experience assisting in advising clients in relation to employment, health and safety, protection of personal information and immigration laws. She has advised clients in various sectors including mining, telecommunications, banking, insurance, retail and construction by providing advice in relation to unfair dismissal disputes, unfair labour practice claims, unfair discrimination allegations, restraints of trade, sales of business, employment contracts, policies and procedures, data protection, mandatory vaccinations in the workplace, collective bargaining, as well as representing clients at internal hearings and the CCMA and the Labour Court.

Background

Jacqui is an admitted attorney in South Africa (2005). Jacqui holds a BA (Hons in English) LLB degree from the University of the Witwatersrand (2002) as well as a Masters in Labour Law from the University of Johannesburg (2010).

  • Pearson plc on the disposal of 100% of its shares in Pearson South Africa Proprietary Limited to Novus Holdings Limited, as well as the parallel sale of business from Pearson South Africa Proprietary Limited to Pearson Holdings Southern Africa Proprietary Limited pursuant to the internal restructuring of its South African operations
  • Copenhagen Investment Partners on its subscription of more than 80% of the shares in Mulilo Renewable Energy (RF) Proprietary Limited.
  • Comcast Corporation, a major telecommunications conglomerate, on the South African aspects of the joint venture between Comcast's subsidiary, NBCUniversal, and the Multichoice Group, Africa's biggest pay TV company, in terms of which NBCU will acquire a 30% stake in the joint venture company which will offer content from NBCU, Universal Pictures, Peacock, Sky, HBO, Warner Brothers International, Sony and others.
  • a confidential multinational mining client in relation to the restructuring of its operations. This included reviewing the current organisational structure and determining the reason for the restructuring, drafting the necessary correspondence to be issued to employees and advising the client on employee's objections throughout the process
  • co-ordinating with local counsel in 24 African jurisdictions regarding the risks associated with the transfer of personal data across international borders
