Justine is a consultant specialising in environmental and regulatory law in our Johannesburg office.
With over sixteen years post admission experience, Justine has extensive experience in regulatory matters although her main area of interest is in health, safety and environmental regulation.
She has advised and assisted clients in various sectors including mining, infrastructure, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, banking and finance, transportation and agriculture by providing operational regulatory and compliance advice, as well advising on the regulatory compliance requirements and risks within the context of complex transactions and projects. Her experience extends across the entire regulatory spectrum from guidance on permitting requirements for green and brownfield projects, operational compliance, administrative appeals and judicial reviews and compliance and enforcement action. She also has substantial experience in transactional work including in conducting due diligences and drafting and commenting on the environmental and related regulatory provisions in transactional documents.
Owing to her experience as an in-house and an external counsel, she understands the interrelationship between law and other corporate disciplines.
Justine has prepared the environmental legal opinions required for a number of successful bids submitted under both the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producers Programme and Round 5 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme.
She was a key member of the team responsible for drafting the sustainability portions of the Saudi Arabian Mining Investment Regulations.
Justine holds a BA (1999) and an LLB (with distinction) (2001), both from the University of the Witwatersrand.
She is a co-regional chairperson (Gauteng) of the Environmental Law Association.
