Ian Hutchinson


Ian is a consultant in corporate law and corporate governance, and former chairman of Freehills. 



Ian’s 50-year career also includes a period as the General Representative for Lloyd’s in Australia, pursuant to the authorisation of Lloyd’s underwriters under the Insurance Act 1973; and as a member of the Australian Government’s general insurance consultative committee.

Ian has wide experience in Asia. He is a director of companies with links to China and has presented in China about company boards in Australia. In 2011, he was invited to participate in the China Chengdu International Summit on Building Convergence of Interests and Communities of Interest between Australia and China. 

Ian is also a director of not-for-profit organisations and chairs a foundation in New York.


Ian is a highly experienced consultant in corporate law and corporate governance, based in Sydney. He was previously a senior partner and chairman of Freehills.

As a professional non-executive director, Ian has served on the boards of listed and unlisted companies in the investment banking, financial services, general insurance, life assurance, managed funds, superannuation, rail transport, hotel, mining investments and property sectors.
