Thomas specialises in civil law, commercial, corporate disputes. He also supports clients in post-M&A disputes and internal investigations.
Thomas has a particular focus on contruction and infrastructure disputes, corporate disputes and insolvency-related disputes.
Thomas advises domestic and international corporations, management and supervisory boards and individuals in out-of-court disputes, litigation, arbitration and internal investigations.
Thomas' experience includes advising:
acting as counsel for a multinational general contractor in an ICC arbitration in Germany concerning damage claims under an EPC contract for a coal fired power plant
RWE in a €700m post-arbitration litigation against a Russian investor*
IVG Immobilien AG in a litigation against former management board members over damages for violation of directors’ duties*
Porsche Automobil Holding SE on damage claims brought by several investors*
Royal Imtech in an internal investigation into their German business for potential violations of directors’ and officers’ duties*
an international wind energy company in an internal investigation into potential violations of directors’ duties and subsequent representation in several in- and out-of-court disputes with former managers and customers*
a multinational chemical company in several disputes in connection with dismantling of a production plant*
a multinational commodity trade company in a litigation against an insolvency administrator over effectiveness of a collateral agreement*

Thomas studied laws at the University of Bonn and graduated in 2007. He also holds a doctorate degree (Dr. iur.) from the University of Bonn on an insolvency related matter. Since finishing his second state exam in 2011, Thomas is admitted to the German bar as Rechtsanwalt.
Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills in 2016, Thomas worked for another leading law firm in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and London. Prior to his admission to the German bar, Thomas worked several years at an insolvency administrator and on insolvency-related disputes at another major law firm in Bonn.
A German native speaker, Thomas is fluent in English.
