Experience

Alexei is the head of the Moscow dispute resolution practice, specialist in litigation and arbitration. For more than twenty years, he has been representing clients in complex corporate, commercial, construction, banking disputes, cross-border debt recovery as well as in restructuring proceedings. Alexei has extensive experience in advising on complex Russian and international litigation and arbitration matters affecting the activities of both foreign investors and national Russian companies. Between 2007 and 2020, Alexei won over 250 litigations, including 8 in the High Arbitration Court and Supreme Court.

Alexei is an advocate in the Russian advocate practice Herbert Smith Freehills Moscow Advocates’ Bureau, Bar Association.

Recent experience includes:

  • Russian biathletes Olga Zaytseva, Yana Romanova and Olga Vilukhina in the Supreme Court of the State of New York in the case for the protection of their honour and dignity against Mr Grigory Rodchenkov, former director of the World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited Moscow Lab in Moscow
  • Royal Bank of Scotland and the syndicate of other banks in a US$300 million LCIA arbitration against Kazakhstan companies, operating in Russia and Kazakhstan
  • a Russian businessman in connection with a complex cross-border shareholders dispute regarding coal mining business in 9 jurisdictions (Cyprus, BVI, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Seychelles, Belize, England, Greece and Russia) including obtaining disclosure and freezing orders in a number of jurisdictions
  • a Russian high net worth individual in a settlement of a dispute related to recovery of damages being considered by the LCIA (amount in dispute in excess of $1 billion)
  • a Russian high net worth individual in a settlement of several disputes in excess of US$650 million related to the sale of shares being litigated in Swiss and Russian courts

Background

Alexei graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Law in 1999 and has been a member of the Moscow Bar since 2002.
