Alberto Martínez Fanego
Alberto is a senior associate within the Energy, Projects & Infrastructures Department in Madrid.
Alberto focuses mostly on energy projects, mergers and acquisitions and corporate transactions for a wide array of domestic and international clients, such as energy and infrastructures corporations, private equity funds, investment banks and public entities.
Alberto has a double degree in Business and Law by the Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros (CUNEF) in Madrid and holds a Masters of Law (LL.M.) from Georgetown University (Washington D.C.).
Before joining Herbert Smith Freehills, Alberto worked in an international law firm in Madrid for one and a half years, within such firm's Corporate/Transactions department, among other relevant professional experience such as a six months-internship in United Nations, in New York.
Experience & expertise
- Sojitz Corporation on its first investment in Spain, consisting of the acquisition of an indirect 15% stake in Regasificadora del Noroeste (Reganosa), owner of a LNG terminal in the North of Spain, from First State Investments
- Al Shoula Consortium, formed by Spanish leading rail and construction companies such as Abengoa/Inabensa, ACS/Cobra, Adif, Imathia, Indra Sistemas, Ineco, OHL, Patentes Talgo and Renfe, among others, on all legal aspects of the construction of the superstructure, systems installation, maintenance, rolling stock procurement and operation of the Haramain High Speed Railway (HHR) project Phase II, which links the two holy cities of Makkah and Medinah via Jedah in Saudi Arabia
- Engie on the acquisition of a minority stake in two companies promoting nine wind farm projects with a total installed capacity of 300MW in Spain, including the drafting, negotiation and assistance on the execution of two long term PPAs for such project
- a confidential French investment fund on the acquisition to Copisa Constructora of 90% of the share capital of the Spanish concessionaire Copisa Concesiones
