Herbert Smith Freehills’ project finance and infrastructure expertise in the Asia Pacific region has been recognised by IJ Global at their annual awards ceremony held last night in Singapore.

The awards celebrate outstanding transactions and institutions in the world of infrastructure finance.

Five deals Herbert Smith Freehills advised on in 2015 received awards, the most of any law firm.

The five deals were:

Asia Pacific M&A Deal of the Year – Transgrid

Herbert Smith Freehills advised the NSW Electricity Networks consortium on its successful A$10.26 billion acquisition of the TransGrid high voltage electricity transmission network from the New South Wales Government.

Asia Pacific Wind Deal of the Year – Hornsdale

Herbert Smith Freehills advised on the construction, operation and financing for the 100 MW wind farm to be constructed in Hornsdale, approximately 200km north of Adelaide in South Australia. The wind farm will have a capital value of approximately A$285 million.

Asia Pacific Telecoms Deal of the Year – Macquarie Crown Castle

Herbert Smith Freehills advised the financiers on the A$2 billion acquisition by a consortium of investors, led by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets, of Crown Castle Australia Limited, the largest independent telecommunications tower operator in Australia.

Asia Pacific Metals & Mining Deal of the Year – Finders Resources

Herbert Smith Freehills advised the lenders in relation to US$165 million senior secured bank facilities provided to Finders Resources Limited in relation to its Wetar copper project in Indonesia. Herbert Smith Freehills’ associated firm, Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandung LLP, advised on Indonesian legal issues.

Asia Pacific Oil & Gas Deal of the Year 2015– Asian American Gas, Inc.

Herbert Smith Freehills advised the lenders in relation to a US$250 million reserve based loan for China based natural gas producer Asian American Gas, Inc.
