Herbert Smith Freehills has won the DIAN Decade Award for Advancing Diversity and Inclusion in Asia from Hong Kong responsible business champion, Community Business.

At a ceremony in Hong Kong last night (12 November), the firm received the award for its programme to achieve a 30% ratio of female partners in Asia.

Community Business' DIAN Decade Awards celebrate progress on diversity and inclusion in Asia over the last decade.

"We are incredibly proud of our efforts in diversity and inclusion, and delighted with this latest award," said Asia Managing Partner Justin D'Agostino.

"We don't believe an organisation can succeed if its leadership is not representative of those that it aims to lead. Creating a more gender-diverse partnership is one critical part of our progress in this area."

In 2014, the firm announced a series of aspirational global diversity targets, including to increase female representation in the global partnership to 30% by 2019. Asia hit the target a year ahead of schedule, jumping from 19% in 2014 to 30% on 1 May 2018.

Over the four years, the firm has been able to sustain and grow its pipeline of talented women through targeted career development programmes, sponsorship of candidates, and mentoring and coaching.
