Leading international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has promoted five Asia lawyers to counsel, as part of the firm's 36-counsel global promotion round.

These promotions follow the announcement of Singapore private capital specialists Victor Chiew and Salonika Kataria's promotion to partnership last week.

"This year's new counsel span our practices and regions, with talented individuals from China, Southeast Asia and North Asia," said Asia managing partner May Tai.

"These counsel and partner promotions from within, combined with 12 partner hires in the past 18 months, demonstrate our ongoing Asia expansion."
