Leading global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has named Hong Kong partner Simon Chapman QC as its new regional head of disputes in Asia.

Simon takes over the role on 1 December 2020 from partner Peter Godwin who has come to the end of his term.

“Peter has made an enormous contribution to the firm and the global practice. We want to say a huge thank you to him,” said Anna Sutherland, Managing Partner, Disputes. “Our disputes team in Asia is in a very strong position. Our reputations, both collective and individual, are high, and the quality of our team and our client base is superb.

“However, there is still plenty more to do and now is a great time for a new leader to guide us towards a new and exciting future,” said Anna. “I know that Simon will bring a wealth of experience to the role and help to lead the practice through its next chapter in the region.”

Commenting on his appointment, Simon said: “It is a huge honour to be appointed to lead our Asia disputes practice. We truly have a first-class team and I am looking forward to leading them from here, as well as working closely with the disputes leadership team in other regions.”

Peter added: “I'm very proud of everything we have delivered together. I am delighted for Simon and am very much looking forward to seeing our practice continue to flourish under his new leadership.”
