Herbert Smith Freehills has launched its global Legal Operations function that brings together the firm's legal project management, pricing, legal process improvement, innovation and automation teams into a single unit to provide more effective and efficient services to clients and the firm's lawyers.
The new global Legal Operations function reflects the equivalent functions, where relevant, within clients' in-house legal teams, and creates a single point of access for clients and lawyers in need of these services.
"Many clients today are bringing together their own legal operations teams to provide a range of critical business support services for their in-house lawyers," said Mark Rigotti, Chief Executive Officer of Herbert Smith Freehills. "By forming our own legal operations function, we are able to sing from the same hymn sheet as our clients and work with them in a more streamlined and innovative way, ultimately providing them with even better service."
The Legal Operations function will be led by Ian Gilbert, Director of Legal Operations, with a team of 50 people globally and major hubs in Hong Kong, London, Melbourne and Sydney.
The global team will work with clients to assess and analyse the issues they are facing and develop bespoke solutions accordingly. It will focus on helping clients in areas such as improving service delivery and developing collaborative working through the use of new technologies; identifying alternative resourcing options; applying innovative methods to solving issues; and leveraging data analytics and insights. It will work alongside the firm's Alternative Legal Services teams to develop holistic solutions that deliver more value and operational efficiencies to clients.
