Herbert Smith Freehills hosted the fifth edition of the Herbert Smith Freehills-NLU Delhi International Negotiation Competition (INC) in September 2018.

The competition, which is believed to be one of the biggest international negotiation competitions in Asia, attracted a record number of participants this year -  38 internationally renowned universities from nine countries, including the UK, Australia, Germany, Japan and Singapore.

The competition introduces them to transactional lawyer-type negotiation situations and hones their skills, with the simulations closely imitating the real-world environment and drafted by experts at Herbert Smith Freehills.

The judging panel for the final round this year comprised Chris Parsons, Chairman of India Practice at Herbert Smith Freehills, Justice Menon, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Bhaskar Chandran, General Counsel of GMR Group, and Aditya Ghosh, business leader, entrepreneur and ex-CEO of Indigo Airlines.

A number of general counsels and senior lawyers from top Indian law firms were judges at various stages of the competition, bringing the total to 50 judges.

Chris Parsons, Chairman of India Practice at Herbert Smith Freehills, said, "The competition this year was truly exceptional and the quality of the problems was commended by all the judges. We plan to continue building on the success of the competition and contribute towards elevating the calibre of future lawyers for the modern world."
