Herbert Smith Freehills, one of the world’s leading legal services businesses, is announcing a collaboration with Frankfurt-based innovation hub TechQuartier. The goal of the collaboration is to explore the latest applications of new technologies in the context of legal practice, while further developing the local start-up ecosystem.

‘’We are very happy to welcome Herbert Smith Freehills to the TechQuartier community, and are very much looking forward to build synergies between their team and our members” says Thomas Funke, Managing Director at TechQuartier. “They have shown a lot of enthusiasm in engaging with our community, and are highly motivated to learn from it while also giving back. This collaborative mind-set aligns perfectly with TQ’s way of fostering innovation.’’

Founded in December 2016, TechQuartier (TQ) is a Frankfurt-based start-up hub and cross-industry innovation platform. Now established as the main access point to the local FinTech cluster, it is the reference point both for local start-ups wishing to grow their business and for corporates aiming to collaborate and leverage their disruptive potential. TechQuartier and Frankfurt were together named Germany’s Fintech Hub as part of the Digital Hub Initiative (de:hub) run by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

“Herbert Smith Freehills has a long-standing tradition of having a high-performing, innovative culture” says Dr Nico Abel, Managing Partner for Germany. “This partnership allows us to further build on the unique skillset of our people, while also providing our firm with a solid foothold in the local and national start-up ecosystem. We are very happy to join the TechQuartier community, and look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration.’’

With about 60 lawyers across Germany, Herbert Smith Freehills advises local and international clients on transactions, projects, and disputes with leading expertise in coporate/M&A, disputes resolution, finance, real estate, competition/regulation, employment, and tax matters, general commercial issues as well as advice on compliance and investigations.
