Herbert Smith Freehills’ market-leading expertise has been recognised at the annual 2019 Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards, with the firm picking up six prominent accolades.
The prestigious awards were presented at a gala event attended by the who’s who of the legal industry in Sydney on 9 August. The awards recognise the leading law firms, in-house counsel and legal practitioners in a range of categories.
Herbert Smith Freehills won the following team awards at the ceremony:
- Energy & Resources Team of the Year
- Commercial Team of the Year (Head Office Advisory)
- Transaction Team of the Year (M&A)
Several of the firm’s people also won individual awards:
- Rising Star of the Year (Blake Connell)
- Partner of the Year (Jason Betts)
- Dealmaker of the Year (Rebecca Maslen-Stannage)

Solicitor Blake Connell won Rising Star of the Year for his technological approach in driving a major client’s innovation agenda efficiently and creatively.
Jason Betts was the recipient of the Partner of the Year Award for his role advising on the most significant disputes and class action matters.
For the second consecutive year, Corporate M&A partner Rebecca Maslen-Stannage was awarded the highly sought-after Dealmaker of the Year Award for her role advising on the most prominent deals in M&A and equity capital markets.
