Two young Australian graduate lawyers have taken education into their own hands with the publishing of their first book, Leading Cases in Australian Law.

Daniel Reynolds, a Herbert Smith Freehills graduate, has partnered with Lyndon Goddard, a King & Wood Mallesons graduate, to produce a guide to the 200 most frequently cited judgments in Australian Law.

The book serves the needs of both law students and practising lawyers alike and is the first of its kind published in Australia. The foreword is written by Chief Justice Robert French AC.

Herbert Smith Freehills’ Regional Managing Partner, Asia and Australia, Sue Gilchrist said Leading Cases in Australian Law would serve as an important reference and reflected the talent and dedication of its authors.

“Such a volume has never been available in Australia until this point and its usefulness to both those studying the law as well as practising it is evident. It's pleasing to see this tangible result of the authors' collaborative professional efforts.

“By providing not just a summary of the facts of each case, but also key statements from the judgments, cross-references to the leading texts on the case and an insightful commentary, this book will no doubt become a very useful guide.

“Daniel’s role as a graduate at Herbert Smith Freehills is also a reflection of our dedication to attracting the best and brightest young lawyers working in the Australian market and we look forward to watching his intellectual curiosity continue to grow throughout his career,” Sue said.

Daniel added, “The requirement for this book became apparent as we pursued our legal studies and we are delighted to have been able to contribute a much-needed guide to case law that we hope will be valuable to our colleagues across the profession”.

Sir Anthony Mason, Australia’s Chief Justice between 1987 and 1995, will launch Leading Cases in Australian Law this evening at Herbert Smith Freehills’ Sydney Office. Copies of the book can be purchased from Federation Press.
