International law firm Herbert Smith Freehills is pleased to announce today the appointment of Mathias Dantin as a new partner in our global Energy and Infrastructure team. Mathias is based in our Paris office.

Mathias is a public law lawyer and a specialist in the regulatory and transactional aspects of energy and infrastructure deals both in France and in French-speaking Africa, where he advises operators, financial investors, public entities and lenders. He also advises clients on their litigation and pre-litigation strategy for regulatory and public procurement matters before the French and African administrative courts and the European Union.

Mathias will be part of the firm’s push to accompany its clients through the energy transition over the next few years and plays a key role in our global ESG and climate change practices.

Admitted to the Paris Bar and Attorney at Law (State of New York, USA), Mathias Dantin, aged 37, holds a Law Master’s from the University of Minnesota, a Master’s in tax law and business law and a Master’s in public business law from the University of Lyon III. He joined the firm in 2011 as an associate, before being promoted to Of Counsel in 2017.

The Energy and Infrastructure team at Herbert Smith Freehills in Paris consists now of 19 lawyers (6 partners, 2 Of Counsel and 11 associates) who specialise in project development and acquisitions and disposals in the power, renewable energy, oil, gas, mining, water, telecoms and transport infrastructure sectors. Working with other Herbert Smith Freehills practices, the team provides a full legal service to its clients, whether they be major groups, independent energy companies, banks, funds or governments, at every stage of a transaction or project lifecycle.

Mathias’ promotion will take effect from 1st May 2021. 23 lawyers have been promoted to partner worldwide.
