Herbert Smith Freehills has been crowned 'Energy Firm of the Year' at the 2019 Who's Who Legal Awards.

The award reflects the firm's reputation and work in the energy sector over the last 12 months, showcasing lawyers' expertise in understanding the complexities and implications of global trends and challenges for clients.

The firm has recently acted on the US$10 billion sale of BHP Billiton's sale of its entire portfolio of onshore US oil and gas assets to a wholly owned subsidiary of BP plc. They also advised ENN Ecological Holdings Co. Ltd, on its aborted multi-billion USD acquisition of the rights to a 20 year liquefaction tolling agreement with Texas-based Freeport LNG from Japan's Toshiba Corporation. The transaction would have been the first investment by a private Chinese company in the US liquefied natural gas market.

The Who’s Who Legal Awards are based on research conducted among private practice lawyers of repute in their respective fields, as well as general counsel, in all the major jurisdictions. The objective of the research is to identify a select group of practitioners or firms considered by clients and peers to be pre-eminent in their area.
