Antoine Juaristi and his team have joined Herbert Smith Freehills' disputes practice.

Antoine joins the firm's largest office on the continent as a Partner. Together with his team he will focus on high-profile banking and finance litigation, AMF and ACPR disciplinary proceedings and internal and international investigations. The team – made up of Antoine, two of Counsel (Géraldine Marteau and Martin Le Touzé) and three associates (Laetitia Lamy, Elena Kormosh and César Michel) – has experience handling disputes over asset management, lending operations, financial market transactions, derivatives and insurance mediation.

Antoine has carved out a leading reputation in the Paris market for financial disciplinary proceedings. He is seen as the 'go-to' authority on all issues relating to professional civil liability borne by financial institutions and their executives.

Antoine joins Herbert Smith Freehills from Hogan Lovells, where he was in charge of financial services litigation as well as Head of Litigation in Paris. Prior to starting his career as a lawyer, Antoine was a financial analyst and broker. He is admitted to the Paris Bar and Madrid Bar as an Avocat and Abogado del Ilustre Colegio de Abogados respectively.

This latest hire comes after the firm more than doubled the size of its disputes practice in Germany in May 2016 with the hire of two Corporate Crime and Investigation (CC&I) Partners, Dr Helmut Görling and Dr Dirk Seiler, international arbitration partner, Dr Patricia Nacimiento and a team of seven other lawyers and forensic experts.

Clément Dupoirier, disputes Partner at Herbert Smith Freehills' Paris office, said: "We are delighted to welcome Antoine and his team to our disputes department. Their arrival will substantially boost our capabilities in the sector and the firm's reputation as the leading force for dispute resolution in the French and European markets."

Justin D'Agostino, Global Head of Herbert Smith Freehills' Dispute Resolution Practice and the firm's Joint Regional Managing Partner for Asia and Australia, commented: "Financial institutions are facing an unprecedented period of regulatory scrutiny about the way in which they operate. Clients need more perceptive guidance than ever before and Antoine makes a great addition to our ever-growing contentious capability throughout Europe."

Antoine added: "I am very happy to be joining Herbert Smith Freehills with my team; the firm has a superb reputation in disputes and litigation. We are all very enthusiastic about rising to meet this new challenge."
