Janis focuses on advising the insurance industry, fund managers and asset managers on investments, investment processes, regulatory issues and the integration of sustainability and ESG considerations. He also advises national and international companies on corporate matters including M&A transactions.
In addition, Janis supports clients in the establishment and structuring of funds, in the eligibility of investments for insurers and funds as well as in the distribution of funds in Germany and the EU. A particular focus of Janis is advising insurers and funds on ESG and sustainability issues, especially on the requirements of the EU's Sustainable Finance Strategy.

Background
Janis graduated from the University of Cologne, holds a Maîtrise en Droit from the University Paris 1 Panthéon/Sorbonne and was admitted to the German bar in 2020. Since 2017, he has been board member of Thermador Groupe SA near Lyon. Prior to joining Herbert Smith Freehills in 2021, Janis worked for another international law firm in Germany. A German native speaker, he is fluent in English and French.
