London-based arbitration partner Chris Parker has been appointed Queen's Counsel (QC) in England and Wales.

Chris will be the third QC currently practising at Herbert Smith Freehills. He joins a prestigious line of QC talent from Herbert Smith Freehills over the years, including The Right Honourable The Lord Collins of Mapesbury; Dr Campbell McLachlan QC; Professor Julian Lew QC; Paula Hodges QC; Matthew Weiniger QC; Adam Johnson QC; and Simon Chapman QC. Chris is one of only 5 solicitor advocates in this year's QC appointments.

Home-grown talent, Chris joined Herbert Smith's international arbitration group in London on qualification. He has also spent time in the firm's arbitration teams in Shanghai and New York, before returning to London from New York in 2015.

Lauded by the directories as 'a sophisticated and polished advocate' Chris has carved out an impressive career to date in international arbitration. He has acted as counsel and advocate in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations in a number of jurisdictions and under various governing laws. He has broad experience of advising on international disputes, particularly in the energy, mining and life sciences sectors.

"Chris is an extremely talented advocate, and we are very proud of this richly deserved appointment," said Paula Hodges QC, Head of the firm's Global Arbitration Practice. "It reflects Chris's legal excellence and demonstrates the high esteem in which he is held by arbitrators, clients and his peers. It also reflects the high calibre of talent and the bench strength of the firm's market-leading disputes practice."

The prestigious appointment of QC is made by Her Majesty The Queen on the advice of the UK Lord Chancellor, following consideration by an independent Queen's Counsel Selection Panel. The appointment is given to distinguished practitioners based on merit, and in recognition of their professional ability, reputation and integrity.
