As part of its ongoing examination of the post-Brexit relationship between the UK and EU, the House of Lords' European Affairs Committee has invited Herbert Smith Freehills' partner, Silke Goldberg to give evidence.

The aim of the Select Committee's enquiry is to examine the overarching state of the post-Brexit relationship and how it may be improved in the future. In today's sitting, Goldberg will be called to provide a perspective on the state of the energy, environment and climate change relationship.

Goldberg's evidence will focus on the extent of co-operation between the UK and the EU in the face of the current energy security challenges in Europe. She will also discuss North Sea energy cooperation and the development of the renewables, electricity and gas interconnectors market.

Silke Goldberg, partner and global head of Herbert Smith Freehills' ESG practice, says: "As the dust settles on COP27 it remains no exaggeration to say that climate change is the biggest challenge of modern times. However, if the ambitions and promises made are to turn into concrete action greater alignment amongst States is essential. Our own recent report highlighted how the UK and EU continue to take the lead on climate ambition, but that doesn't yet mean sufficient steps are being taken. Positive steps have been taken, but collectively larger strides can still be made."

Goldberg will give evidence on a panel also including Dustin Benton, Policy Director at Green Alliance and Jonny Peters, Senior Policy Adviser at E3G.

The session will be broadcast live via Parliament TV.
