Herbert Smith Freehills partners Veronica Roberts and Mark Robinson have been appointed joint global Sector Lead Partners of the firm's Technology, Media and Telecoms (TMT) sector.

The TMT sector counts more than 360 lawyers throughout the firm's 25-office network, who team up to advise TMT industry clients on transactions, investments, projects, finance, disputes, intellectual property, competition, employment, investigations, regulatory and compliance and many other areas.

Their appointment follows the launch of the firm's new strategy, Ambition 2025. As part of that strategy, the firm is strengthening its capabilities to advise current and future tech companies and building on the opportunities created by both established and growth technology companies.

"Veronica and Mark have extensive experience of the tech, media and telecoms industries," said Herbert Smith Freehills CEO Justin D'Agostino. "Their combined understanding of this dynamic and increasingly important sector around the globe makes them the perfect choice to lead and develop our talented multi-disciplinary team."

An EU/UK competition law expert based in London, Veronica also leads the firm’s global foreign investment group.  Veronica helps clients navigate merger control and foreign investment regimes across the UK, EU and other jurisdictions, as well as dealing with competition/regulatory investigations and compliance issues. Her experience includes complex matters for the Bharti Group, OneWeb, Moneysupermarket.com, Pearson and Telefónica.

"Antitrust, foreign investment and regulatory oversight of tech and data are critical boardroom issues for TMT companies of every scale," said Veronica. "Our team's expert and pragmatic advice helps companies navigate these challenges securely and responsibly."

Based in Singapore, Mark's reputation has been built on delivering complex corporate transactions, investments and projects in Asia and he has also previously worked extensively in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. His experience ranges from digital infrastructure and telecommunications to growth and big tech companies, and Mark advises clients such as Google, Axiata and DigitalBridge.

"The rapid development of technology companies and increasing demands for data are reshaping the TMT sector and impacting other businesses around the globe," said Mark.

"It's a very exciting time for the TMT industry, where new technologies, companies and even industry segments are features. Our focus on TMT companies enables us to help them with opportunities and to navigate through any challenges."
