Herbert Smith Freehills is pleased to announce its sponsorship of The World Reimagined, a ground-breaking UK-wide art education project to transform people's understanding of the Transatlantic Slave Trade and its impact on humankind in order to make racial justice a reality.

The World Reimagined will see trails of large Globe sculptures in cities across the UK between August and October of 2022, created by artists to bring to life the reality and impact of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Each trail will consist of 10 Globe sculptures, one for each of the nine themes of the 'Journey of Discovery' and a tenth Globe designed by an artist in collaboration with community groups local to the trail.

Based on the theme 'Still We Rise', Herbert Smith Freehills is sponsoring the seventh globe which will be located on Leadenhall Street/St Mary Axe as part of the City of London trail. The City of London trail artists include Foluso Oguntoye, Glen Brooks, Kione Grandison, Phoebe Boswell, Yinka Shonibare CBE, Curtis Holder, Winston Branch, Sarah Owusu, Gil Mualem-Doron and Natasha Muluswela.

Alison Brown, Executive Partner, UK, US & EMEA at Herbert Smith Freehills, comments:

"'I am seen.' That is the mission of The World Reimagined – a mission we as a firm share in our push to break down the barriers to inclusion for our colleagues, clients and communities. Our 10 Actions for Change – our global commitment to achieving this – are but one step on our journey towards racial equity. By supporting The World Reimagined, we hope to further our understanding of the past and play an active role in shaping our future – for the better."

The trails of Globes are the centre of The World Reimagined's broader learning and community programme with schools, community groups, sporting and cultural institutions from across the UK taking part. Through Herbert Smith Freehills' schools network, the firm is also supporting two schools in London by funding the small Globes they are producing as part of the trails.

The firm's 10 Actions for Change is a global set of commitments aimed at improving the representation, and experience, of Black, First Nations, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues throughout our firm. As part of this, the firm recently announced its support for the Black Equity Organisation (BEO), a national and independent civil rights organisation founded to advance justice and equity for Black people in Britain, in collaboration with five other law firms. The six law firms provided strategic, financial and advisory support, as part of a commitment to work towards tackling racism in the UK.
