Dr Marcel Nuys is a Partner in our Düsseldorf office and leads our German Competition practice.

He advises on all aspects of European and German competition law. His practice focuses on complex merger control proceedings, cartels, abuse of dominance proceedings, compliance programmes, and antitrust damage proceedings as well as on questions in relation to the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation. Marcel advises clients in a variety of industries, including automotive, technology, media and telecommunications, transportation and logistics, consumer goods and energy.

Marcel  is regularly recognised as a leading lawyer for Competition Law in Germany ("Top-Anwalt für Kartellrecht") by WirtschaftsWoche. Clients praise him as "very knowledgeable, but never gets lost in technical details, quick and pragmatic - fantastic lawyer" (JUVE Handbook 2023/24).

Marcel regularly speaks at conferences on competition law developments and contributes to thought leadership. He is a co-editor of GTDT’s Competition in Digital Markets in the EU (here). He is also the editor of Cartel Intel, and is a regular contributor to the HSF Notes competition blog.

  • General Mills in competition law aspects of the sale of its European dough business to Cérélia, including securing unconditional Phase I clearance by the FCO
  • Rheinmetall AG on competition law aspects of the acquisition of Expal Systems S.A of Madrid including advising on merger control clearance proceedings in the Middle East and Spain
