Kewei Law Firm has hired leading corporate partner Justina Zhang, adding technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) expertise to the firm's joint operation with Herbert Smith Freehills.

科伟律师事务所迎来顶级公司事务合伙人张卫华律师,该任命将扩充科伟与史密夫斐尔律师事务所的联营办公室在科技媒体与电信行业(TMT)的业务。

Justina is a TMT specialist in both corporate transactions and regulatory compliance. She has extensive experience advising Chinese growth and large tech clients on mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, capital markets, joint ventures and corporate restructurings in both China and internationally. She also advises multinationals on foreign direct investment in China, as well as data, advertising, general corporate and commercial matters.

Herbert Smith Freehills is one of only a small number of international law firms permitted to integrate China law advice with international legal services through its joint operation with Kewei in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.

"Justina's arrival boosts our ability to help clients make more of the growth of China's digital economy," said Kewei international partner Gavin Guo. "She strengthens our corporate and TMT capabilities in the joint operation with Herbert Smith Freehills."

Justina will work closely with Herbert Smith Freehills' global and Asia TMT teams, who advise some of the largest companies in the tech, media and telecoms sectors, as well as the firm's corporate and other teams in China and globally.

"Justina's deep sector knowledge and cross-border expertise will be invaluable to our client base, from growth and unicorn companies to established players. Her arrival will enhance our existing ability to advise clients from or into the world's second-largest tech market."

The joint operation, Herbert Smith Freehills Kewei, formally launched in August 2019 and its services have been in heavy demand from international and China clients since launch.

"This is another major expansion of our capabilities in China with Kewei, following IP partner Peng Lei's move to Kewei in September 2021," said May Tai, Herbert Smith Freehills' Asia managing partner. "This appointment also supports our commitment to TMT clients in China and more broadly across Asia."
