Herbert Smith Freehills, the international law firm, has announced that Frédéric Chevallier, a leading French patent litigator, will be joining the firm as a Partner. He will work closely with Alexandra Neri, Head of IP and TMT in Paris and Sophie Rich in London to further develop our patent litigation expertise across Europe.

Frédéric is a "home grown" talent, having been a junior associate in the firm's Paris office until December 2009, after which he left the firm to join the patent litigation team of Allen & Overy in Paris, where he was promoted to Counsel in May 2017.

Frédéric specialises in cross-border patent litigation, including the related regulatory aspects especially in the pharmaceutical field. He has developed a strong expertise in the life sciences and TMT fields and has built trusted relationships with clients in these sectors, having been directly involved in a number of major and high value patent cases over the last 8 years for leading innovator pharma companies.

Admitted to the Paris Bar, Frédéric holds a Postgraduate Degree in Industrial Property Law from the University of Paris II Pantheon-Assas, and an LL.M, from the University of Edinburgh.

"I am delighted to welcome back Frédéric to the firm. His valuable experience in patent litigation in the pharmaceutical and TMT sectors will be a great addition to the firm. The arrival of Frédéric, in addition to the recent hire of Laura Orlando in Milan, will further bolster our pan-European patent disputes capabilities", says Mark Shillito, Global Head of Intellectual Property.

Sophie Rich, partner and Head of Life Sciences in the UK added: "I am very excited that someone of Frederic's calibre and experience will be joining our team in Paris as a partner.  Frédéric is an experienced lawyer recognised by clients and peers alike. His practice will complement Alexandra's expertise in IP and technology litigation and will enable us to meet the needs of our global pharma and technology clients in one of their core markets."

Alexandra Neri commented: "Frédéric's return to the team will enable us to offer our clients focussed and in-depth expertise in patents, which is rare on the French market. Moreover, Frédéric's loyalty and his friendly personality are both reasons why his return is such a pleasure for both our team and our clients."

Frédéric concluded: "I am delighted to re-join Herbert Smith Freehills to help develop a leading patent practice in Paris, in collaboration with the outstanding patent litigation practice in London, the fantastic current IP practice in Paris, as well as the globally renowned Disputes group."
