With extensive experience in high-profile and sophisticated capital markets and financing transactions, he is well respected among multinational financial institutions and leading domestic companies in Indonesia.
Herbert Smith Freehills and Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung have one of the closest and longest-standing associations in the Indonesian legal market.
"I am honoured to take on the role as managing partner, and hope to contribute to the firm's ongoing success and growth," said Tjahjadi.
"Despite the difficulties of the past year, our people and clients have helped the firm not only survive but to thrive. I look forward to even greater growth during a very busy period for Indonesian business and investment."
His appointment comes as Iril Hiswara, founder and current managing partner of Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung, prepares to retire from the partnership in December 2021.
"As one of the founders of the firm, Iril has nurtured a small start-up of eight partners and lawyers in 2000 into Indonesia’s leading commercial law firm, 70 lawyers strong," said Tjahjadi.
"In December, he will begin a well-earned retirement, and we wish great happiness to Iril and his family for this new chapter."
"We have been fortunate to enjoy a successful association with Hiswara Bunjamin & Tandjung for over 21 years, one of the longest law firm associations in the Indonesian market," said Asia managing partner May Tai.
"The growth of our relationship since 2000 has been exceptional under Iril’s leadership. We wish him well for his retirement, and look forward to future success in Jakarta in partnership with Tjahjadi and his team."
