Herbert Smith Freehills advised Sky on its acquisition of a significant shareholding in Synamedia, joining majority shareholder and European private equity firm, Permira.
Synamedia, a leading global provider of video solutions, has over 200 pay-TV and media customers including AT&T, Astro, beIN, Bharti Airtel, Charter, China DTH, Comcast, Cox, Disney, Foxtel, Get, Liberty Global, Oi, OSN, Rogers, Sky, Shaw, Tata Sky, Verizon, Viasat and Vodafone.
The transaction demonstrates Herbert Smith Freehills' presence in the private equity sphere and the continuation of its valued relationship with long-standing client Sky.
The team was led by private equity partner John Taylor and competition partner Andre Pretorius with assistance from senior associates Siddhartha Shukla and Marcel Nuys and associate Juliana Penz.
